The idea of creating a VR experience started when Dräger, the client specialised in the production of safety and support equipment, demanded an intriguing way to show some of their most efficient gas detection devices. In spite of showcasing the products in a web-based experience, we opted for transporting the viewer in a scenario rich in action, where the use of three main tools was the leading way to complete the experience and survive.

The VR experience lets you dive into a character visiting an oil rig, pushed in a race against time to escape from a gas leak: using Dräger safety tools the player finds a way to detect and avoid hazards, equips oneself with safety tools, and reaches the safe area before time runs out.
In order to deliver a realistic experience, we made a deep research regarding the emergency programs and the use of the detection kits. All the elements then, from platform objects to escaping procedures, have been modelled following real-life models and paths, ensuring the user to personally experience how detection products work as in everyday situations.

A crucial part was the creation of interfaces necessary for guiding the user toward the tasks: overall the effort was to avoid the use of too many explanations popping out and distracting the player during the experience. As a solution, a voice-over advisor was included, providing guidance during the most challenging parts and explaining the targets to reach, while maintaining two interface types for the instructions and for the description of the events.
